February 14, 2024The Best School Rugby Team in Wales!
Alun Wyn Jones and George North’s old school has made history by becoming the first school team to win the Welsh Rugby Union’s elite level Welsh Schools and College’s Cup with a 28-13 win for Llandovery College over Ysgol Glantaf at the Principality Stadium.
Llandovery College has finished an unbeaten campaign to become the first school - rather than College - to win the U18s WSC competition. The ‘man of the match’ award was chosen by Wales captain, Jac Morgan, who selected Llandovery College’s outside half, Carwyn Leggatt Jones. Leggatt Jones thanked the team, led by captain, Joe Denman, and said he would not have secured such a prestigious award without them. He then went on to thank the other team and all the family members and friends who had come along to support the teams.
Ex Wales back row and Llandovery College coach, Nathan Thomas, said:
“To be the first school to win this elite competition crowns a great campaign for Llandovery College. Ysgol Glantaf were a very dangerous outfit with threats across their whole team. We predictably finished the stronger and it gave all our squad game time securing great memories of playing at the Principality Stadium as a winning team. The season is far from over as the College has top opposition to come in the shape of; Sedbergh, Welsh Academicals, Crawshays and, of course, Christ College, Brecon on February 3rd 2024. There is also a full season of seven a side rugby ahead in the Easter Term to keep everyone busy.”
