GCSE Results 2024

Llandovery College students have secured superb results in their GCSEs, continuing on from the A Level results announced last week.

Students, parents and staff are celebrating with 28% (23%) A*-A grades of all examinations taken. As well as an increase to 78% (73%) of A*-C grades, which clearly demonstrates that students at all levels have gained the recognition that they deserve. (Comparative data in brackets are the results for 2019 pre Covid results). Llandovery College’s highest performing students secured an impressive 9A*s and 2As, 6A*s and 5As, with many more delighted students achieving a host of A*/A grades in numerous subjects.

Llandovery College Warden, Dominic Findlay, said: “I am hugely proud of both the students and staff who worked tirelessly over the past few years to gain such wonderful results.” “Despite the WJEC downgrading results for the final time, back to 2019 levels, our students and staff have performed incredibly well to raise their achievement levels across the board. Such results are outstanding, especially when you consider this cohort of students are from a non-selective entrance basis.” “We look forward to welcoming those Year 11 students returning to Llandovery College in September, alongside a host of new students, as they progress along their educational pathway into Sixth Form.”

On top of these grades 7/8 students gained an A grade in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) awards. Llandovery College Warden, Dominic Findlay, said:

“I am delighted with this year’s results; especially when you place them alongside all of the incredible extracurricular successes that this cohort have gained throughout their studies.”

“Such results are particularly pleasing when WJEC and Qualification Wales have again downgraded national results by some 7%, in their final attempt to return top grades to pre-pandemic pass rates.”

“Despite this downgrading our top performing students gained 2A*s and an A, 1A* and 2As, 3As and a B, plus a host of other students achieved a minimum of 2As. This is a fantastic achievement, and we are all so pleased for our leaving Year 13 students.”

“Students have gained places in Russell Group universities, Medical Schools, Performing Arts Courses, the world of professional sport, whilst others have decided to take up apprenticeship opportunities or delay their entrance to university for a year.”

“At such an incredibly important moment for all concerned, we wish all our leaving Year 13 students the best of luck in the future as they take their next step along their future career paths.”

“Finally, I would like to thank all staff, students and parents who have worked tirelessly to gain these results.”
