We couldn’t have chosen a better production to mark Llandovery’s return to the stage than “The Wizard of Oz”. The difficult process of casting began in the Michaelmas term with students from Year 9 to Year 12 cast in principal roles. We have weathered the storm of the various restrictions to work industriously in rehearsals, and are so proud to now present this performance to you.
While the talent on stage is plain to see, “behind the scenes” boasts just as much in the way of excellence. Every piece of scenery, props and costume has been crafted by our talented staff and students.
The costumes have been made by pupils in Year 9-11 studying for the Arts Award qualification under the guidance of Miss Beynon and, as we are sure you will agree, they rival any costume you will see in a professional theatre company. The set has been designed by Mr Rodgers, and he has led a huge team of pupils in creating, sanding, painting and perfecting a truly remarkable vision of Kansas, Munchkinland and Oz.
Technical theatre is often overlooked, and we are fortunate to have a student-led stage crew with programming of lighting and sound also carried out by students under the tutorship of Mr Field.
Orchestral scores in musicals are notoriously challenging; and our senior school musicians have risen completely to this challenge, playing alongside professionals and gaining valuable skills.
This production has been a huge team effort and we are delighted to bring a little bit of magic back into your lives after such a testing few years. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we have enjoyed making it!
